Loire Valley tasting

A few months ago we embarked on a programme of “Educating Christine” on international benchmark wines, particularly from the traditional European regions. We asked her to study a wine region (like Pomerol) and wine variety (like Merlot) and present a short lecture to a small group of us, followed by a tasting presented by myself of local and foreign wines. (Actually, it’s more of an excuse to educate ourselves and have a good evening – one never stops learning with wine!)

At the end of last year we decided to step it up a little and offer a small group of private customers a chance to join us at our Syrah and Rhone Valley Benchmark Tasting. It was a great evening and we had some fantastic wines including a 100 point Parker wine.

We will kick off the new year with our next tasting focusing on the Loire Valley and particularly Chenin Blanc. We really believe that South Africa makes some of the best Chenins around, so this will be a very interesting benchmark tasting for those curious to discover more international wines while appreciating the high standard of our local examples.

Venue: We will return to Greengate, a delightful organic deli in the heart of Stellenbosch normally only open during the day. Situated in the little square behind FNB and The Hussar Grill and close to Genki.

Date: Monday 26 January, arrive at 6.30 pm to enjoy a toast with us. The tastingwill begin promptly at 7.00pm.

Cost:  R450.00 per person. Please book directly with us by replying to this mail.

Expect:

  • Bubbly on arrival.
  • A brief summary of the Loire Valley by Christine and myself.
  • A selection of top quality Chenins from the Loire & South Africa as well as some Chenin based blends which is fast becoming the most exciting wine category. This is really aimed at both novice and experienced tasters who want a taste of the best and most interesting.
  • Delicious food with some of our favourite Chenins.
  • Coffee and tarts.

Hope you can join us in “Educating Ourselves” and exploring another crucial category for fine South African wine.
