When you visit Sijnn  you may feel that you’re in the middle of nowhere but in the search for a good meal we’ve discovered some great restaurants within a 50km radius of  the winery. This is a short list of restaurants that our team have vistited and can recommend. Most of these are very popular and we’d suggest booking in advance.


La Sosta

Winner of  the Eat Out Award 2014: The Best Italian Restaurant in South Africa.

La Sosta is an Italian Restaurant situated in Swellendam (47km from Malgas). Chef Cristiana and husband Gianni run the kitchen and front of house, ensuring perfect service  and delicious food each time. They have accommodation on the premises allowing you to indulge in their excellent food and wine, while not having to worry about driving afterwards. Bookings are essential – they are usually booked out three weeks in advance.

De Hoop 

The Fig Tree Restaurant is situated at De Hoop Nature Reserve, just 18km from Malgas. Owners Nini and William Stephens welcome guests to their restaurant whether you are a day visitor or staying overnight. They serve A la Carte for breakfast and lunch. In the evenings you can enjoy a three course set menu. They have a lovely selection of local wines and provide excellent service. The restaurant is open daily from 08h00-21h00.

Field and Fork

Field & Fork is situated in Swellendam (47km from Malgas) in the same building as the Drostdy Museum. The restaurant derives its name from the culinary vision of bringing locally sourced quality produce from the field to your table. Chef and owner Francois du Rand, serves these ingredients with a great passion for food and a dash of French flair. It is best to book in advance as they are often fully booked.

Stephen and Marianne Altham are the owners and Chefs at Koornlands. The restaurant was born with the concept of Cuisine Du Cap; a concept born from their visions of Cape Fusion Cuisine and enabled by the suppliers of excellent quality produce in the region. Koornlands is well known for serving an array of game dishes providing that unique South African experience. You can expect dishes including venison, springbok, impala, kudu, crocodile, warthog, ostrich, and aged beef flame grilled hibachi steaks.

Schoone Oordt

Schoone Oordt Country House is a small hotel in Swellendam, Western Cape, South Africa, arguably the best of Swellendam accommodation, with 10 luxury bedrooms set in lush gardens, an intimate Conservatory restaurant. To make an online booking click here.

Their country food is served with Schoone Oordt flair and style.  They source the best quality produce from small local suppliers as organically and ethically as possible and they love picking fresh herbs and vegetables out of their own garden, or finding treasures at the local farm markets.

Guests can enjoy a carefully prepared and sophisticated South African menu with wines paired with every course. The wines are hand-picked by their “wine enthusiast”, Sonette, from the regions surrounding Swellendam, Robertson and Hermanus.
